The Primo Grills Oval Junior 200 is a ceramic kamado charcoal grill made in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and this version is the grill head on its own, ready to drop into an outdoor kitchen island or pair with a Primo cart, cypress table or cradle sold separately. It offers 210 square inches of primary grilling space and 360 square inches in total with the optional rack system, and it holds steady heat from 151°F to 850°F+, so one cooker covers low-and-slow smoking, roasting, baking and high-heat searing.
Two-Zone Cooking
Primo's patented oval firebox is the reason this grill cooks so differently from a round kamado. The longer shape lets you bank charcoal on one side and leave the other side cool, so you can sear steaks over direct heat while vegetables or a roast finish gently on the indirect side.
Ceramic Built for Heat Control
The thick ceramic shell holds heat and moisture, so meat stays juicy and the grill uses less lump charcoal than a thin metal cooker. Airflow is set with a cast top vent and a stainless steel lower draft door, and an analog dome thermometer shows the temperature at a glance. The reversible porcelain-coated cooking grates flip for different cooking heights.
Built-In Installation
For an island installation the grill rests on a supporting shelf inside a countertop cut-out, so the dome sits just above the counter. Primo's template for this size calls for a 22" x 22 1/2" hinge-notch (the only template recommended for the Junior) opening with the shelf 11" below the countertop surface. Leave 10" open behind the grill so the lid can swing fully, and keep at least 2" of air space around the ceramic. Download the cut-out template below and check it against the grill on site before cutting any stone or concrete.
